Was the Hollywood Sign ever truly in danger?
Hugh Hefner just donated $900,000 to complete the sum of $12 million necessary to purchase the land adjacent to the Hollywood sign. That’s right, adjacent. The land next to the land on which the Hollywood sign sits.
The Hollywood Sign is surrounded by 75 acres of land, while the land purchased is outside of this acreage. Furthermore, it seems dubious whether the land next to the sign could ever have been developed for legal or practical reasons, let alone serve as any threat to the sign itself.
